While there are numerous benefits of a robotic FUE procedure (minimal scarring, allows a patient to keep their hair very short, can return to strenuous activity sooner), one limitation is that the donor region (back and sides of the scalp) needs to be shaved very short (approximately 1 mm in length). Following the procedure, the donor region may be noticeable for 10-14 days, and this can limit the ability to return to work or a regular lifestyle. This aesthetic issue can be alleviated by utilizing the long hair robotic FUE method using the ARTAS iX robot.
Maximizing Grafts for Natural Results
Our NYC long hair FUE transplant is performed by growing the hair longer on the back and sides of the scalp beforehand. On the day of the procedure, this longer hair is elevated, and a thin band is then shaved. The follicular unit grafts will then be harvested from this shaved band. At the completion of the procedure, the hair is combed down to cover the extracted donor regions fully and completely. The longer the hair is grown, the wider the band that can be shaved and the more grafts that can be harvested for the procedure.
